Calculate potential savings

Four inputs, one annual estimate.

Simulation inputs

Use annual payroll subject to RAT and FAP for the same establishment. RAT starts at 3%; select a scenario for possible FAP.

Annual remuneration subject to RAT at the same establishment.

Pre-filled at 3%. Confirm the predominant activity rate: 1%, 2% or 3%.

Enter the official establishment factor, from 0.5000 to 2.0000.

Possible FAP scenario

Value for the selected scenario. Edit it to explore another assumption.

What are FAP and RAT?

These two figures determine the rate of a Brazilian social security contribution related to workplace risks. Understanding each one helps you interpret the estimate.

What is FAP?

FAP (Work Accident Prevention Factor) is a multiplier calculated for each establishment. It can lower or raise the RAT rate. The official factor ranges from 0.5000 to 2.0000: below 1.0000 it lowers the rate; above 1.0000 it raises it.

Social Security compares establishments in the same CNAE economic activity subclass using the frequency, severity and cost of work accidents and occupational illnesses. FAP is calculated annually using data from the two years before processing, for application in its effective year.

What is RAT?

RAT (Workplace Environmental Risks) is the base contribution rate that funds benefits related to workplace risks and special retirement. The rate is 1%, 2% or 3%, according to the predominant economic activity.

The 3% rate in this calculator is only a starting value. To estimate the contribution for your establishment, confirm the applicable rate and use only remuneration subject to RAT.

How do FAP and RAT work together?

FAP multiplies RAT to produce the adjusted rate. For example, a 3% RAT and 1.3000 FAP produce an adjusted rate of 3.9%. With FAP at 1.1000, it would be 3.3%.

The estimated contribution is payroll subject to RAT multiplied by the adjusted rate. Comparing two FAP values with the same payroll and RAT shows a hypothetical annual difference.

Where can I find FAP and RAT?

An authorized company representative can check the official FAP and its calculation details in FAPWeb using a gov.br account. Confirm the establishment and applicable year before entering the factor.

For RAT, check the predominant activity and corresponding rate in Annex V of Brazil’s Social Security Regulation. Your tax or accounting team can confirm the classification and payroll base.

How savings are calculated

The calculator compares the annual contribution using current FAP and the possible FAP entered. The difference is the potential tax saving.

Annual saving = annual payroll × RAT × (current FAP − possible FAP)

RAT may be 1%, 2% or 3%, based on the predominant activity. Official FAP ranges from 0.5000 to 2.0000 and multiplies RAT. Use figures from the same establishment and annual period.

Worked example

With annual payroll of BRL 10,000,000, RAT of 3% and current FAP of 1.3000, the estimated contribution is BRL 390,000. If FAP were 1.1000, it would be BRL 330,000. The hypothetical difference is BRL 60,000 per year.

How OPTIKON supports prevention

Computer vision monitoring helps identify safety deviations such as improper PPE use and access to restricted areas. Alerts and records support team response and preventive management. Effects on incidents and FAP depend on the operation, measures taken and official calculation rules.

Scenarios are comparison assumptions, not forecasts. Optimistic uses the minimum allowed FAP of 0.5000; realistic suggests a reduction of up to 15%, respecting that minimum. OPTIKON-supported prevention may help reduce incidents, but does not determine the official factor or when it changes. This estimate excludes other contributions, incentives and specific tax treatments.

Frequently asked questions about FAP and RAT

Are FAP and RAT the same thing?

No. RAT is a 1%, 2% or 3% base rate based on the predominant activity. FAP is an establishment-specific multiplier from 0.5000 to 2.0000 applied to that rate.

How are savings from a lower FAP calculated?

Multiply annual payroll subject to RAT by the RAT rate and by the difference between current and possible FAP. The comparison shows savings only when possible FAP is lower.

What is the difference between optimistic and realistic scenarios?

Optimistic uses FAP 0.5000, the minimum allowed value. Realistic suggests an illustrative reduction of up to 15% from current FAP, respecting that minimum. Neither predicts the officially assigned future factor.

Which RAT rate should I enter?

Use the rate for the establishment’s predominant activity: 1%, 2% or 3%. The calculator suggests 3% as a starting point, but you can change it.

Where can I find my company’s official FAP?

An authorized representative can consult the establishment’s FAP and calculation details in FAPWeb through a gov.br account. Check the applicable year before using the factor.

Is FAP the same for all company establishments?

Not necessarily. FAP is calculated for each establishment. Use payroll and FAP from the same establishment for a consistent estimate.

When can a safety improvement affect FAP?

The effect is not immediate. FAP is calculated annually using data from the two years before processing and comparison with establishments in the same activity. Recent improvements do not automatically change the current factor.

Does OPTIKON guarantee a lower FAP?

No. OPTIKON supports prevention by identifying safety deviations. Official FAP depends on social security events, comparison with businesses in the same activity and applicable rules.
